Weiqi Fiesta at Our Tampines Hub Draws Crowds for Strategy and AI Battles
The Weiqi Fiesta at Our Tampines Hub brought together enthusiasts and curious minds of all ages at the Community Auditorium for a day of strategic board game mastery. Organized in partnership with the Singapore Weiqi Association, the event featured exciting tournaments where participants competed for gold, silver, and bronze honors.
Beyond the competitions, visitors and beginners took part in the interactive Weiqi Clinic to learn the basics of the game. Many attendees also tested their skills against AI robots directly on the board, adding a modern twist to the timeless game of Go.
Tournaments and Learning Zones
The event featured stations labelled “ADVANCED” where children and adults played tabletop games, showcasing their strategic thinking. The setup allowed players of different skill levels to engage in focused matches, with the advanced stations catering to more experienced participants.
Hobbyist Board Games and Go Demonstrations
Children enjoyed HOBBYIST board games, including Go, played with black and white stones on a grid, as well as a second patterned-grid game. The activity tables provided a hands-on introduction to classic strategy games, encouraging players to think several moves ahead.
Learning from Experts and AI
Participants played Go, also known as Weiqi or Baduk, on boards at public activity tables, testing their skills in a friendly, communal setting. The atmosphere was one of concentration and camaraderie, with players of all ages immersed in the game.
A staff member guided children through the rules of Go on a demonstration board, making the game accessible to newcomers. This hands-on teaching approach, combined with the AI robot challenges, offered a comprehensive experience for both beginners and seasoned players.
Our Tampines Hub congratulated all medalists and participants, and extended thanks to the Singapore Weiqi Association, partners, and the community for making the fiesta a resounding success. The event highlighted the enduring appeal of Weiqi as a game of focus, strategy, and timeless mastery.
